A preliminary meeting was held Thursday, March 31, 2011, and a meeting on April 19, 2011 to form the Oxford Development Corporation.  The meeting will be held in the Oxford Lions Club building at 7 pm.  There is open membership and those attending the meeting will elect the Board of Directors for the corporation. 

 

The by-laws will be presented at the meeting.  This corporation’s first project will be obtaining funds to open a grocery store in Oxford.  Six directors will be elected with a seventh and final board member to be chosen by the Oxford City Council.  All area residents, not just those in the city limits of Oxford, are urged to attend meeting.

The Oxford Development Committee met April 19, 2011, at the Oxford Lion’s Club building to formally organize.  The purpose of the committee is to form a non-profit corporation to obtain funds for various opportunities in Oxford.  The first and primary opportunity is to start a fund of “seed” money for the opening of a grocery store in Oxford. 

 

Thirty-eight residents of Oxford and the close vicinity attended the meeting.  Ron Parsons conducted the meeting to present a framework set of by-laws required to be a non-profit corporation.  Those residents in attendance became members of the committee by attending the meeting.

 

Actions taken by the Committee at the meeting were to conduct formal business on the first Thursday of each month.  All future meetings are to be conducted at the Lions Club building in Oxford.  The Committee elected the following persons to the Board of Directors:

 

Ron Parsons    2 year term

Kay Dee Potucek   2 year term

David Aikins    2 year term

Danny Ginn   1 year term

Kenny Thomas   1 year term

Jo Hays      1 year term

 

One additional board member will be appointed by the Oxford City Council as their representative.

 

A meeting will be held on May 19, 2011, with the board of volunteer individuals to begin the planning of fund raisers and to receive additional information of non-profit corporation operations.

 

The next meeting for the Oxford Development Committee will be on May 5, 2011, at 7 pm in the Oxford Lion’s Club building.  All interested individuals are urged to attend.  The Oxford Development Committee wishes to thank the Oxford Lion’s Club for the use of their facilities in the holding of these meeting.
