Hydrant Flushing

Oxford News, Events

πŸš°πŸ’¦ HYDRANT FLUSHING πŸ’¦πŸš°

Over the next few weeks, the City Crew will be flushing fire hydrants throughout town on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.

The Crew is currently working on the north side of town and will move to the south side in the next couple of weeks.

πŸ’§ What should you expect?
During and shortly after hydrant flushing, you may notice temporary discoloration or a slight brown tint to your water. This is normal and occurs when sediment in the water lines is stirred up during the flushing process.

There may also be a temporary decrease in water pressure or flow while a nearby hydrant is being flushed. Water pressure should return to normal once flushing is complete.

While the discoloration may be unsightly, it does not indicate that the water is unsafe to use. However, you may prefer to avoid using discolored water for cooking, drinking, or laundry until the water has cleared.

If you notice discoloration, simply run your cold water for a few minutes to help clear the line.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our City Crew completes this important annual maintenance to help keep our water system and fire hydrants functioning properly! πŸ’™

Happy Arbor Day, Oxford! 🌳🌱✨

Oxford News, Events, Park Board

Last Friday, April 24th, we got to celebrate one of our favorite traditions with Mrs. Donley's 6th grade class—this year at Cave Park—and they did an amazing job! πŸ‘

With help from our utility crew, these students rolled up their sleeves and planted three new trees: a Kentucky Coffee tree, a Jefferson Elm, and a Weeping Cherry 🌳🌸🌿

After all that hard work, it was time to celebrate with pizza πŸ• and cookies πŸͺ (well deserved!) and enjoy a little fun together in the park.

The City is proud to be celebrating our 26th year as a Tree City USA community, and this annual Arbor Day tradition is something we always look forward to. Watching these students help grow our community—literally—is pretty special πŸ’š

A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Donley's 6th grade class for your hard work—you should be proud! 🌱

And a special shout-out to Casey’s for the pizza and cookies πŸ•πŸͺ, Gottlob Lawn & Landscape for the beautiful trees, and Bittersweet, LLC for the awesome custom Arbor Day shirts πŸ‘•—you helped make the day extra memorable!
